The head of the armed forces of Israel has been mentioned as a victim of a soldier who stole data from your credit card and went on to traffickers in stolen weapons, Israeli media said Sunday.
The military police said that the soldier used his cell phone to take pictures of a credit card that belonged to Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, and then gave them to traffickers, who used to make purchases.
The soldier is also suspected of stealing a gun from the office of Ashkenazi in the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv. Channel 2 TV said the weapon was a gift from a U.S. general.
Ashkenazi’s identity was made public on Sunday after a military court partially lifted an order of silence on the case, which was initially reported to involve a “senior official”.
The soldier was arrested last month and linked to an attack on a security guard with automatic rifle was stolen while he was serving in the Ministry of Defense.
On Tuesday, an Israeli general resigned after it was discovered that he had lied in a minor traffic incident.
